Given that one of the major complaints made to local government councils is from people asking if they can do anything to stop the noise of the dawn chorus that birds make in the morning, it is clear that there is a need in the community for noise canceling headphones. It is not only the twittering of birds, but early morning lawn mowing, backfiring vehicles and air compression brakes on trucks that spoil you peaceful repose. We are in fact so accustomed to screening out high levels of background noise that those that do impinge on us are usually at quite a high level. Anyone who lives in an urban environment would probably be shocked by the silence of the suburbs – and those who live in the suburbs would probably be shocked by the silence of a desert.
While we are very adapted to life in a noisy environment, there is no doubt that constant screening out of intrusive sound is wearing and consumes much energy. The use of noise stopping headphones can give you a break for a while, and cushion the impact of noise.
Rather than using ear plugs, if you just want some time out – you need to be looking at getting some active noise cancelling headphones.
As with most things, you pay for what you get, but with a price range between -0 you can probably look at the market and find adequate noise canceling headphones at a price you can afford.
Top of the range models are expensive so you should consider carefully what level of background music you want, and what level of ambient noise and interference you need to overcome and make your product choice accordingly.
Most noise cancelling headphones are reliable only when dealing with recurrent background noise – so if you only want to take a nap when everyone else is generally busy, a noise canceling headphone is probably enough and will give you the results that you need. If you need to escape from more intensive and irregular noise – then you may consider a passive system which blocks out all ambient noise – the upside of this being that if you need a passive noise isolation product – then on average the price is lower than for integrated noise canceling systems. Systems which enable freedom from high levels of random noise are not background noise canceling headphones but noise isolating units.

Headphones have developed around us from many years. They provide high quality sound output. These are used for listening sound through walkman, mp3 players and other sound producing devices. There is a huge difference between normal earphones and sound canceling headphones. They are heavy and dear, the output cannot be compared with any other sound producing devices as they’re very performance based. In the case of the Philips HN060 noise canceling headphones the ancient adage “you get what you pay for” is entirely right. They are an affordable pair of headphones that don’t really live up to many of the features in the pricier brands.
First the excellent parts about the headphones. They are priced relatively low starting from to bucks. They do a decent job of delivering sound while reducing noise around your environment. They do come with three different sets of earbuds, a plane adapter, a 3.5 mm jack for every other device, a carrying pouch, and a neck strap. The neck strap is a plus when traveling.
Next the terrible stuff about the headphones. First the earbuds were rather uncomfortable. None of the three sets included would really fit inside my ear. They also would continue to fall out. Some reviews I have read talk like you really have to push them down deep into the ear cancel to get a excellent seal. This sounds a small perilous to me. It also seemed that the earbud cords were very simple to get tangled up when putting the headphones away in its pouch. It seems to take more power so I had to turn the volume up higher than I would really like too.
In review the Philips HN060 is a decent pair of noise canceling headphones for the money. I really reckon you would be better saving your money and buying a pair that provides more features. If you can’t then is a reasonable alternative.
